Assumptions

  1. Based on a large manual freezer with a total floor space of 38 ft² (3.5 m²) including aisles and walk-ways. Assuming each manual freezer is 90% full.
  2. Manual freezer power calculations include an additional 12% due to door openings, and an additional 3% for every year of operation; the calculations assume a 5-year-old freezer.
  3. Footprint includes refrigeration.
  4. For manual freezers power calculations include air conditioning. For BioArc Ultra power calculations include refrigeration, water chilling, heaters, and automation/robotics.
  5. The electricity costs are accurate as of September 2023.
  6. CO2 equivalent emissions are based on TEWI (Total Equivalent Warming Impact): the impact from direct refrigeration emissions + the impact from indirect emissions resulting from the generation of the electricity needed to power the equipment. It is measured in tons of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e). For BioArc Ultra, this does not include the water chiller because water chillers are supplied by the customer, therefore the gas used varies.
  7. Manual picking is compared to BioArc Ultra fitted with 2 selector modules.
  8. Assuming a 5-day work week, 48 working weeks per year.
